DIY Solutions 2005 Mini CooperS Engine Rehab

Project Mini Reliability

2005 Mini CooperS

Waterpump area
Nice southern car. Perfect rust free body but everything leaked. As the owner picked up her car the waterpump went.
The owner went to work cleaning and detailing all the parts

. New waterpump, all hoses, power steering hoses, valve cover gaskets, engine pan gaskets, oil cooler gasket, front sub frame rebuild and several other coolant and oil leak locations. All factory hose clamps were updated with best quality german hose clamps. Hate those factory clamps.

Lots of detailing with every part inspected and cleaned.
The subframe was detailed with several worn components replaced

WOW  Check this out

No more leaks and years of reliable fun driving ahead

914 update

Nice 914 Creamsicle 2L
Above shows the old panel that was removed and replaced. The battery tray was in original amazing condition

You're Going The Wrong Way.....

Hey Guys that's not where you are supposed to sit

Terry and his son Andrew spending some good bonding time together in a 914 engine compartment. That's Terry on the right and Andrew with the big grin. Ha Ha

It looks like it has been to the moon and back

Needs some work don't you think

Andrew fixed it just by staring at it

A Thing of Beauty

Nice Job Terry and Andrew. Truly an impressive improvement in the 914 2L

A 1985 M491 ready for an engine out full refresh (3.2L engine)

The engine has only 60,000 miles, runs strong but needs a few leaks fixed .

Showing some excitement as the engine came out with no snags.

After many hours of dismantling and cleaning I have started with new oil tubes. Next the seals are all replaced.

3.6 Restoration 2011

We started with a 95 that  had 75,000 miles on it. The engine was solid in it's inner workings but everything else was showing it's age. Without some reconditioning reliability and performance  would suffer moving forward.
The transmission worked well but the clutch and all of the related parts were replaced.

The car was lowered to euro height. with factory euro shocks and springs

The engine is stripped of dirt and grease. Everything removed down to the case, inspected , cleaned and replaced as necessary.

Transmission polished and replaced . Sheet metal powder coated. All metal re-zinc anodized. All hoses and hardware replaced.New wiring harness.

Another view from underneath. Everything like new. Anything that could leak taken care of.

New premium engine pad installed. Better than new!

Virtually very nut bolt and seal is replaced .  Here is a detail pic of the chain cover area.

Listening to the car is important.

New Beru wire set custom built.

Almost back together.

Now this becomes art

Started first turn of the key.

964 Engine coming together

Here are a few pictures of the 91 964 engine close to completion and ready to go back in . Close attention has been placed on ensuring the potential oil leaks are addressed. I hate oil drops on garage floors.

Lined up and ready to lower the car.

Brad is waiting patiently because it is very sunny and warm out.

The engine is back in and only a few connections left.

Still need a sticker for the top of the fan but that won't stop a test drive
